3.06km in 19:12 seconds – yeah, Pikachu mode definitely engaged! But conquering that personal best left my stomach rumbling louder than a Snorlax after a feast. Enter Loh Kei Duck Meat Koay Teow Th’ng, a Penang legend beckoning with its fragrant duck broth.
Arrival and Ambiance:
Reaching Loh Kei at 10:58 am, we encountered a familiar sight – a queue snaking out the door. Opening hours are 7:30 am to 11:30 am, Wednesday to Friday, so keep in mind that Thursday is a rest day for both staff and ducks. By our late arrival, some coveted add-ons had already flown the coop, leaving us with bean sprouts and fish ball soup. Lesson learned: early birds get the (duck) worm!
The Food:
The Koay Teow arrived swiftly, portion a tad smaller than expected. One bowl left my post-run hunger still battling for Gym Leader status. The bean sprouts were a refreshing crunch, but the fish ball soup didn’t score any critical hits.
Overall:
Loh Kei’s charm lies in its authenticity. Be prepared for a local hawker experience, complete with a side of sweat (especially after a run) and the pressure of hungry eyes eyeing your bowl. It’s a delicious dance between savoring your meal and knowing another food adventurer awaits your plate.
The Verdict:
Worth a visit? Absolutely! Just plan your timing right and maybe pack some extra pokeballs to tackle the queue.
Scoreboard:
- Environment: Local hawker vibes (prepare to embrace the heat)
- Service: Efficient
- Hygiene: Acceptable
- Quality: Good, though some add-ons might be unavailable later
- Parking: Limited, expect a wait during peak hours
- Price: RM6 per bowl (smaller portion)
- Payment: Cash only, so no Pikachu-powered swipes
- Return visit: When in the area and ready for a ducky showdown with the queue
