On the third day of my trip to Kuala Lumpur, I found myself wondering where to go for a good meal. As someone who loves exploring new food options, I was eager to find something delicious and unique, but I had no idea where to start.
That’s when I remembered my friend who lives in Kuala Lumpur. He has a great taste in food, and I knew he would be able to recommend a great spot for me to check out. Without hesitation, I gave him a call and explained my predicament.
As if he had read my mind, he immediately suggested Kakatoo Restaurant. Located along our planned route for the day, this restaurant specializes in Nyonya cuisine – a fusion of Chinese and Malay flavors that is not commonly found in my hometown of Penang.
I was excited to try something new, so we headed to Kakatoo and started browsing the menu. After much deliberation, we decided to order a few dishes to share – Custard Lava Bun, Kerabu Mango Chicken, Pongteh Chicken, Nasi Bunga Telang, and Cendol.

The Pongteh Chicken was an absolute standout, with tender and juicy chicken that was bursting with flavor.

The Custard Lava Bun was also a hit – the creamy filling oozed out of the soft bun with every bite.

The other dishes were all above average as well, and we left the restaurant feeling full and satisfied.

Thanks to my friend’s sixth sense for good food and his recommendation, I had a fantastic meal at Kakatoo Restaurant. I’m already looking forward to my next food adventure in Kuala Lumpur!
